Bach in the Subways

The annual Bach in the Subways event takes place ever March in celebration of the birth of J. S. Bach. This year the event will span March 21 to 31. What is Bach in the Subways? There are four core elements to a Bach in the Subways performance:
  • The music of J.S. Bach is performed anywhere, any time.
  • The performance is open & accessible to all – a musical gift for anyone who wants to hear it.
  • No admission fee is required, no money is accepted by the performers, and no other commercial transactions occur immediately before, during, or after the performance.
  • No musician is ever charged to perform for Bach in the Subways.
As part of Play the Recorder Month, BCRS is taking part in this event, led by our own Marea Chernoff. We invite you to join us! Here are the details...

Used Recorder Drive

BCRS gratefully accepts well-loved recorders and recorder-related paraphernalia. We offer them to members and the public in exchange for a monetary donation* to the society. Donations received go directly to supporting BCRS activities such as meetings and workshops, as well as covering operating costs such as web hosting, Zoom services etc. At the end of each year, recorders that have not been claimed are donated to Instruments Beyond Borders.

Items we accept:
  • Recorders and some other early instruments (please note that we do not accept recorders with German fingering)
  • Cases, recorder stands, music stands, stand lights, etc.
To donate your items, you may bring them to a meeting, drop them off at the Bach in the Subways event (see above) or contact Andrea MacDonald to make other arrangements.

*We regret that we are not yet a charitable organization and we are unable to provide receipts for donations at this time.
