A Zoom Rehearsal of ARS's 'Transparent Letters Across the Sky'
Get ready for the ARS Play-the-Recorder Day event on March 21, 2021! Join Seattle Recorder Society’s Music Director Vicki Boeckman on March 6, 2021 at 1pm PT to rehearse ''Transparent Letters Across the Sky', a joyful, spirited composition inspired by the Pablo Neruda poem quoted below. Commissioned by the American Recorder Society, this 4-part recorder composition was written by Boston-based composer Melika M. Fitzhugh.
Fitzhugh, a graduate of Harvard-Radcliffe (A.B. in Music Theory and Composition), and the Longy School of Bard College (M.M. in Composition), is an award-winning composer, teacher, and director, whose works have been commissioned and performed in the U.S. and internationally.

During the March 6, 2021 online practice session, Vicki will provide guidance on the structure of the piece and techniques to help you prepare for ARS’s Play-the-Recorder Day event on March 20, 2021 – an online, en masse orchestra 'performance' directed by composer Melika Fitzhugh and her ensemble.

As part of the March 20 event, Fitzhugh will also offer an online lecture about modern composition for the recorder and the use of extended techniques.
