Bergamasca drew upon the musical repertoire that they had developed for concerts earlier in the year. In addition they performed the two new movements of Eccles’ suite The Planets’ Feet, movements entitled Neptune’s Ice Skates (a waltz) and Jupiter’s Skateboard (a fast chromatic piece). Two other additions were Jean Richafort’s D’Amour Je Suis Desheritée and William Byrd’s Non Vos Relinquam. The audience, a mixture of early music lovers and casual visitors for the Fall Fair weekend, expressed appreciation of the music.
Another interesting departure that seemed to go down well was to intersperse seven short poems written in the historical periods covered by the music. Since a Google search revealed absolutely no poems about planets, (needed to accompany the Planets Suite) I was forced to write one! - it is entitled Just Another Planet, and is available here.
